Green - H.E.

Dr. Henry Edmund Greene, Senior was a graduate of Wabash College in 1888 although his father, Dr. (and Rev) James Wilson Greene was affiliated with DePauw.  His mother was Catherine Elizabeth Organ and he had three brothers.
The elder Dr. Greene was a sanitation officer during the Civil War, under Governor Morton.  J.W. Greene inspected soldier's hospitals.
His medical training was at the University of Michigan, Department of Medicine and Surgery.  Upon completing his studies, he returned to his hometown of Crawfordsville, and began practicing at Culver Union Hospital in 1891.
On March 2. 1894, one of Crawfordsville's most talked about weddings took place when Dr. H.E. Greene, as he was commonly known, married Mary Myrtle Somerville, daughter of Peter Chrisman and Martha Ann (Kelly) Somerville.
Peter Somerville was a prominent Crawfordsville banker.

H.E. Greene was an eye / ear specialist but passed away too young, just shy of 53.  (Oct 1, 1922 - born 26 Oct 1867).  The Greenes had H.E. Greene, Jr. and Dorothy.  Mary passed away many years later in late February of 1946.
They are buried at Oak Hill along with other family members.  - written by kbz
